Maria Woodford: Bio

Maria Woodford & Jake Heck

Maria Woodford and Jake Heck are Lehigh Valley mainstays based in Easton, PA. They play a distinctive blend of folk, blues and jazz that is both candid and fresh. While both musicians have foundations that are firmly rooted in traditional blues, Woodford and Heck approach every piece of music they play with a genre bending curiosity that brings both originals and covers unmistakable texture and style. Maria Woodford and Jake Heck have been nominated for multiple LVMA awards both individually and as a duo almost every year since they started performing together in 2004.

Maria Woodford

Maria Woodford is a lifelong musician and songwriter who has seen the world from the largest of stages and the smallest of seedy back room venues. Woodford has been performing in the Lehigh Valley since she brought her touring duo, “Duende” to set its roots down in Easton soil in 2004. Since then, Woodford’s sultry vocals and disarmingly honest approach to songwriting has become an integral part of the music scene in the Valley. Woodford has traveled from coast to coast and beyond with her music, and has received many honors and awards including The B.E.A.M. grant for independent music (2001) and Best Independent Album of the Year (NJ Press- 2002).

Jacob Harris Heck - Guitar

Jake Heck, known as one of the best guitar players in the Lehigh Valley, has been on the scene as a force to be reckoned with since he was a child. Many of the Valley’s veteran musicians and concertgoers have watched Jake grow up on the scene, from his early days as a blues prodigy through his time on the jam band circuit to his current incarnation as the soulful counterpart to songwriter, Maria Woodford. Jake’s accompaniments are thoughtful, moving, and tasteful. When he spreads his wings on any of his many instrumental breaks the result is absolutely awe-inspiring. It is no wonder that he has been nominated for multiple LVMA’s every year for as long as most Eastonites can recall.
